Chelsea news: Blues preparing summer swoop for Barcelona wonderkid Gavi

Chelsea have reportedly opened talks for Barcelona wonderkid Gavi and are expected to make a move for the 18-year-old in the summer transfer window.

    Gavi. Gavi.

Despite not having a permenant manager in place for next season, Chelsea are reportedly stepping up efforts to sign Gavi.

This comes after Barcelona's attempt to renew the 18-year-old's contract was blocked following the financial woes they have found themselves in.

Barcelona must reduce their annual wage bill by around £160million if they wish to sign any more players this summer.

Gavi is currently on a youth contract, but when the club tried to upgrade it to a professional deal, they were stopped.

It is reported that Todd Boehly is willing to make him the highest paid player in the Premier League, despite being just 18-years-old.

He would be another major addition to Chelsea's team since Boehly bought the club.

He would likely be started alongside marquee signing, Fernandez, in a midfield three formation with N'Golo Kante sitting just behind the pair (when fit).

Over the course of the season so far, Gavi has started 40 games and contributed to eight goals in all competitions.

Now, these stats may not seem the most enticing but it's his work off the ball where he really shines.

Each week when Barcelona play, there are often clips shared on social media of the tackles and passes he makes.

Although a player can't be judged solely off their best plays, it gives a good insight to how they will perform each week.

Another reason why this would be a good move for Chelsea is the fact that the midfielder is just 18-years-old.

He has already played for his national side multiple times and has created a dynamic trio with both Frenkie De Jong and Pedri.

This means that he already has experience on the grandest stage and can hold his own against senior members of the squad.

However, Chelsea aren't the only ones vying for his transfer.

Bayern Munich have also thrown their hat in the ring and claimed that they can make a substantial offer if the issues with the Catalan club are not resolved.

It is reported, however, that Gavi would prefer to remain at Barca if a deal can be agreed.
