According to Germany's leading sports tabloid, Sport Bild, Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich are closely monitoring the performances of Mexican defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez of Ajax Amsterdam.

Alvarez has had an impressive season, featuring in 27 Eredivisie matches scoring six times. As a result, the 25-year-old's market value has soared to €35million. Bayern Munich, who are expected to splash out on four or five new players during the upcoming transfer window, are reportedly interested in the player.

However, Alvarez's former teammates, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui, both joined Bayern on free transfers last season but have expressed dissatisfaction with their lack of game time. Therefore, the Mexican international may have reservations about following the same path.

Despite this, Alvarez fits the profile of the type of player that Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel likes to build his team around. With the club expected to spend heavily across all positions, a move for Alvarez could be on the cards.

Last summer, Alvarez was linked with a move to Leipzig, but with Bayern's interest growing stronger, it remains to be seen whether he will be tempted by the opportunity to play for the German record champions.
