Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel happy with 'good first step' following Borussia Dortmund win

Bayern Munich clinched a convincing 4-2 win against Borussia Dortmund as the Bundesliga resumed after the international break.

Courtesy of the victory at Allianz Arena on Saturday, Bayern moved back to the top of the table. Dortmund currently trails the Bavarian giants by two points.

<p>Coach Thomas Tuchel got off to a winning start as the new Bayern manager, just as he had previously done at Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.</p>

However, the German coach is not getting carried away with the win on Saturday. While talking to Sky Sports in Germany, Tuchel admitted that there is significant scope for improvement in the coming games.

"It was a good first step. The game was a bit too wild, we wanted to have more dominance and control. We started very nervously. The whole game was actually too sloppy with too many ball losses. The willingness to work off the ball was extremely high," said Tuchel.

<p>"There's still room for improvement. Everyone was aware of what was at stake today. A change of coach always brings unrest, there was a lot to absorb. The willingness to implement everything was there 100%. That's the most important thing."</p>

Results are crucial for Tuchel right now as it is the business end of the season. The German coach's philosophy will be much more visible on the pitch next campaign when he gets an entire pre-season with the squad.

<p>Tuchel made an instant impact at Chelsea when he took over the role midway through the 2020/2021 season. He helped the London-based club win the Champions League by the end of the season. The German coach made sure that his team was efficient at both ends of the pitch.</p>

Tuchel will look to emulate a similar process at Bayern in the next couple of months.

The German coach was not pleased with the way his team conceded two goals in the final quarter of the game. Tuchel will hope that Die Roten becomes a defensively solid unit ahead of big games in the Bundesliga and cup competitions.

<p>After beating Dortmund, Bayern will turn their attention toward the DFB Pokal quarter-final against Freiburg on Tuesday.</p>

The record Bundesliga champions will again face Freiburg over the weekend in the Bundesliga before travelling to England for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City.
