Barcelona won a hard-fought battle at Camp Nou to come second in La Liga Standings
Sevilla were second best throughout the game. However, their determination held their opponents off the scoreboard. After a scoreless start, Barcelona began to tilt the game in their favour during the second half.
In the 72nd minute, the 19-year-old Pedri scored a stunning shot to lead Barcelona to victory in a tight battle.
Pedri was the sole goal scored in the game in which Barcelona was largely dominant, and that's precisely the kind of game Xavi Hernandez might have liked after the 4-0 victory his team scored against Real Madrid just before the international break.
Pedri scores a brilliant screamer for Barcelona
On Monday, Barcelona player Pedri was in top form and scored a crucial game-winner in the match against Sevilla during a narrw 1-0 victory at Camp Nou.
The goal he scored in the final minutes proved crucial in ensuring that the club maintained their late momentum to win at La Liga.
In the 72nd-minute, a 19-year-old took a pass from Ousmane Dembele. He then attempted shooting twice in his journey towards the box before shooting a screamer, which defeated Sevilla goalkeeper Bounou to score on the lower-left side of the net.
While feigning twice, the Spaniard defeated Ivan Rakitic and Diego Carlos in the Sevilla penalty area.
"The goal was similar to the one I scored in Turkey... I saw the leg coming [so] I feigned, and once I shot, I knew it was heading in," Pedri said after their win.
While he could not play for half the season due to injuries, Pedri has now scored more goals than the first time he played during his debut campaign, Four.
He scored twice in the LaLiga against Espanyol and then against Sevilla. The team also won against Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey and at the Europa League vs Galatasaray.
Manager Xavi Hernandez roots for Barcelona after a crucial victory
After the win, Hernandez was optimistic about his side and had hopes for La Liga.
"As for LaLiga, as long as it's mathematically possible, we will keep fighting... We're going to try. It's unlikely that Real Madrid slips up so much, but we will give everything until the end." Xavi Hernandez said after the match.
Barcelona are currently second in league rankings, with an impressive 57 points from their 29 matches, and Real Madrid is on top with 69 points from their 30 matches. Atletico Madrid is third with a score of 57 points in 30 games, and Sevilla have fallen to the fourth position on goal difference even though they have an impressive 57 points.
Xavi's team has a game left to improve their lead over the two teams, Atletico and Sevilla. Barcelona is scheduled to return on Thursday as the Spanish team resumes the Europa League campaign, against Eintracht Frankfurt, in the quarter-finals. However, Sevilla will host Granada on Friday in LaLiga.
