Hockey News: Australia crushes India and England secures bronze in Commonwealth Games

After a successful campaign, the Australian men's hockey team defended its gold medal with absolute perfection. It was yet another seventh gold medal for the Men in Yellow, and they did it in style by beating India 7-0

Aussie tore the Indian defence apart while India's offence looked non-existent. There were zero penalty corners for the Men in Blue, which is enough to show how far they were from causing harm to the Australian goal. Indian men's hockey team finished their campaign with silver for the third time during Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.

After an agonising semi-final defeat against Australia, England secured men's hockey bronze at the Commonwealth Games by beating South Africa 6-3 in a terrific contest at the University of Birmingham. Skipper Wallace said: "Our target going into the tournament was winning a gold medal and that's the direction our group want to go in."

With England's men's hockey team confirming a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games, the Hockey Association of England (HOE) has announced plans for an increased budget for youth development. In their annual review, released on Tuesday, HAE President Richard Lewis said: "The success of the men's team has been key to that development, and we need to focus on our talent pool. We have been working closely with football, rugby, and other sports to help fast track these young players into these top teams."
