FIH Hockey Pro League: Belgium defeats Spain 3-2 in the first leg

    The Belgian men’s hockey squad defeated Spain 3-2 in a dramatic shootout in the first leg of the match at Sportcentrum Wilrijkse Plein-Antwerp in Belgium

    Within the regulation time, John-John Dohmen in the 39th minute and Boon Tom in the 47th and 55th minute were the goal scorers for Belgium. In contrast, Reyne Marc in the 15th minute, Miralles Marc in the 38th minute, and Iglesias Alvaro in the 40th minute scored for Spain.

    Marc Reyne opened the scoring for Spain in the last minute of the first quarter after receiving a well-placed cross from Joaquin Menini. The second quarter went goalless, and the first half ended with a 1-0 lead for Spain. Miralles Marc scored from a penalty corner to double Spain’s lead in an action-packed third quarter. However, one minute later, John-John Dohmen broke the Spanish line of defence to open the scoring for Belgium. Just one minute later, Iglesias Alvaro scored from a penalty corner to restore a two-goal lead for Spain.

    Tom Boom shined and scored twice in the final quarter to level the scores. Both the teams failed to gain a lead within the regulation time, sending the match into a penalty shootout. Belgium emerged victoriously and clinched all three points after a dramatic 3-2 win over Spain in the shootout.

    Belgium moved one place above Spain to the seventh spot after winning, with 12 points from seven matches.

    Belgium’s women’s hockey team lost to Spain 1-2

    In the women’s event, Spain won against Belgium with a score of 1-2 in the first leg of the match, allowing them to clinch the fifth spot on the charts from Spain.

    Ballenghien Ambre put Belgium in the lead with an early goal from a penalty corner four minutes into the first quarter. The first half ended with both sides failing to score more goals. However, in the second half, Spain mounted a counterattack with goals from Barrios Laura and Oliva Georgina, sealing the victory for Spain.
