National Esports Championships 2022: Tirth Mehta and Charanjit Singh Storm into Quarters

     

    The Esports Federation of India's (ESFI) National Esports Championships 2022 (NESC '22) commenced on April 18, 2022. Indian players like Tirth Mehta and Charanjit Singh have exceeded expectations.

    The 2018 Asian Games medallist Tirth Mehta entered the quarter-finals, while Charanjot Singh delivered an impressive performance at FIFA22 and progressed into the quarter-finals. More than 200 athletes from all over India have been competing in five popular Esports titles-DOTA 2, FIFA22, Hearthstone, Street Fighter V, and League of Legends.

    ESFI for the esports community since the 2018 Asian Games. To raise competition and thrill, ESFI has introduced a double-elimination format in the national qualifiers. The tweak allows teams and players a second opportunity to qualify for the finals of the NESC '22. 

    Esports Now a Medal Sport in Asian Games

    In the multiple online battle arena DOTA 2, Team Whoops advanced to the quarter-finals along with Serene. Misal 3 Pav, Chaos, Team Avengers, DMC, Stylish Gamers Digicont, and New Gods while Aman Ahuja, Mohit Sharma, Viplav Bhandari, Bhagwant Singh, Kasif Sayyed, Ayan Biswas, Aditya Verma and Mayank Prajapati have been named in the last-eight stage of Street Fighter V.

    In the case of League of Legends, there are only four teams - Temple of Kings, Support No Vision, Pineapple Cake and Coco Cats, registered for the esports title. So all of them will kickstart their campaign in the semi-finals. The performances of the ongoing event will guide ESFI's selection for the upcoming Asian Games as the players will represent the country at the event. Esports has now been listed as a medal sport for the first time in the 2022 Asian Games slated to commence in Hangzhou, China, from September 10-25, 2022. 

    The winners of NESC '22 will compete in the AESF's Road to Asian Games - Regional Qualifiers set to take place in June-July, 2022. It is being held for seeding at the main event in China. The NESC '22 can be live-streamed from the quarter-finals on its official YouTube channel from April 22-24, 2022. ESFI's partnership with Artsmith- Concepts & Visions will provide adequate support.
