French President Emmanuel Macron wants esports to take part in the 2024 Olympics

French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his desire to see the largest esports event in history be held at the Olympics. He wants France to be at the forefront of games development and esports.

In an interview with the big whale newspaper, Emmanuel Macron said, “Finally, I also don’t forget esports, another area of excellence for France with teams like Team Vitality nice Karmine Corp. In this regard, we have a historic opportunity to show them off: the 2024 Olympics. We have the full facility to utilize it to forge the connection between the Olympic Games of these two sports by organizing it. The world’s biggest esports events of the year like CS: GO Major, League of Legends Worlds and also The International Dota 2. If the French people trust me, we will work as soon as we are elected. And this is also a French influence.

He also said that he wants to make France a country of video games.

France has previously hosted the group stage of League of Legends Worlds in 2015 and the League of Legends World Championship in 2019. The 2019 edition of the championship was won by FunPlus Phoenix.

French football club Paris Saint-Germain partnered with LGD Gaming, a Chinese esports organization, in 2018 to create PSG: LGD, a professional Dota 2 team based in China. The team has finished as runners up in The International twice in 2018 and 2021.

France is currently in the midst of a Presidential election. Emmanuel Macron will go up against Marine Le Pen on April 24. The competition between the two has been tight. Some people believe that his mention of esports at the Paris Olympics is just another promise to the people. It is the first time a politician has thought of gamers as a demographic to target to tilt the tide of an election.

Emmanuel Macron has also promised to hold some of the world's greatest esports events such as CS: GO Majors, Worlds League of Legends and The International in France if he is re-elected.
