Esports: Mayank Prajapati and Hemanth Kommu will represent India at the Global Esports Games 2022
India's famous Street Fighter V athlete Mayank Prajapati and reigning e-football national champion Hemanth Kommu are the only Indians who qualified for the Global Esports Games 2022

The tournament will take place between December 14 and 18 in Istanbul. Mayank and Hemanth were awarded direct entries, but India's esports pride, the DOTA2 team, couldn't advance to the world finals after crashing out of the Asia-Pacific region qualifiers.
Mayank won the National ESports Championships 2022 by the Esports Federation of India (ESFI). He will also ply his trade at the Asian Games, slated to take place in 2023.
Mayank, motivated by the opportunity to represent India in a world-class tournament, shared, "I've been practicing a lot by playing against players in ranked games and in the battle lounge and devising strategies against different characters."
The prolific esports athlete is ready to face all the challenges, and "if all goes well, this will put the Indian fighting gaming community's name in the world," he continued.
Meanwhile, Hemanth (Peshemak7) was the winner at the NESC 2022. He will now make appearances in both Global Esports Games and the 14th World Esports Championship.
The latter will be hosted in Bali from November 27 to December 7. Hemanth gushed about representing for the second time: "Its sheer dedication and hard work resulted in getting the spot for the GEG 2022 world finals."
"With the right mentality and proper grind, I will be aiming for good results at the world finals," he added.
What happened to the heroes of DOTA2?
The DOTA 2 team - Moin Ejaz, Shubham Goli, Ketan Goyal, Akshay Dhoni and Abhishek Yadav - took an instant lead with a 2-0 win against Nepal in round one but crumbled against Mongolia 0-2.
The bronze winners at the 2022 Commonwealth Games squandered their chances of qualifying at least in the loser's tie against Nepal. They were surprisingly defeated 18-46 and 27-44 in two games.
"Unfortunately, our DOTA 2 team couldn't make it despite their best efforts," said Lokesh Suji, Director of the Esports Federation of India and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation. However, he is elated to hear the news of Mayank and Hemanth.
Global Esports Games 2022: What do we know?
Under the supervision of the Global Esports Federation, the upcoming Global Esports Games 2022 will showcase four Esports titles–DOTA 2 (open & women), Street Fighter V, eFootball and PUBGM across PC, mobile and console.
ESFI initiated national qualifiers for the women's category in DOTA, but the event seems to be off the table. GEG 2022 will welcome competitive athletes from Great Britain, Australia, Canada, Singapore and Ireland.
