West Indies vs Bangladesh Test 1 Day 1: West Indies bowlers pounced on Bangladesh’s brittle batting line-up

With catastrophic collapse from the Bangladesh team, the mighty West Indies bowling line-up managed to restrict them at a dismal score of 103 on the first day of the ongoing first test match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North South Antigua

The Bangladesh team’s vulnerability against the fast bowlers was again seen in this match as no batter managed to withstand the Caribbean bowlers.

Things started getting out of hand from the first over itself for Bangladesh!

Winning the coin toss, West Indian skipper Kraigg Brathwaite elected to bowl first on the bowling-friendly pitch of Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudul Hasan Joy walked in to open the innings for Bangladesh with the aspect of scoring heaps of runs in the first inning. However, the team had no idea what a terrible collapse it would face further. Things started to wreck from the second ball of the inning itself when Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed at a golden duck. The swinger bowled from Kemar Roach to Mahmudul Joy just took an edge of the blade, getting him caught at gully by Nkrumah Bonner, making the score 1-1.

Terrible collapse as Caribbean bowlers dominated the visitors!

The Bangladesh team could never recover from this early wicket as wickets started falling regularly. In the third over, Kemar Roach got rid of Najmul Hossain Shanto, who failed to get off the mark. After him, Mominul Haque was also sent back for a duck, and the poor performance of Bangladesh’s top order became one of the major reasons for Bangladesh’s fall. While the team was losing wickets, Tamim Iqbal stood firmly on the other end. However, Alzarri Joseph’s stunner got rid of him as his slight edge of the bat was brilliantly caught behind by keeper Joshua Da Silva. Tamim Iqbal scored 29 runs off 43 deliveries with four boundaries. The team somehow scored 76 for six in 25 overs until lunch.

Further, the West Indies bowlers maintained their dominance, and no batter survived the deadly bowling attack. However, in this sinking ship of Bangladesh, the lone warrior who tried his best was skipper Shakib al Hasan, who scored an outstanding fifty. While other batters struggled against the bowlers, skipper Shakib scored 51 runs in 67 balls along with one maximum. However, this could not help the team from the collapse as the team was bowled out at 103 in 32.5 overs! A total of six batters were sent back at a duck which clearly explains the team’s catastrophic fall! For West Indies, Jayden Seales and Alzaarri Joseph clinched three wickets each at a very efficient economy rate which managed them to crush the opponent’s batting line-up. Kemar Roach and Kyle Mayers picked two wickets each, with which the team restricted Bangladesh at a meagre score.

A steady start from West Indies

As the first inning of Bangladesh was wrapped up at a low score, it gave a good lead to West Indies in the match. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite opened the innings for West Indies along with John Campbell. The two openers started quite steadily. As runs were flowing from both ends, Bangladesh desperately needed a wicket. In the 26th over, pacer Mustafizur Rahman did that for Bangladesh by sending back John Campbell as he scored 24 runs off 72 deliveries consisting of one boundary and a maximum.

Further, Raymon Reifer was dismissed in the 34th over by Ebadot Hossain with a score of 11. Till the end of day one, the team managed to record a score of 95 for a loss of 2 in 48 overs. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite is still standing tall on the crease at a score of 42 off 149 deliveries, along with Nkrumah Bonner.

On the second day, we can hope for some miraculous comeback from the visitors as West Indies are in a good hold of the match. West Indies will look forward to taking the score further to a monstrous total to ultimately get the opponents on their knees. While it is a tough job for Bangladesh, we cannot underestimate their strong bowling line-up, which will help them to come back into the game.
