Road Safety World Series: Three players from the Road Safety Series that Team India would like to take right away

That the Indian cricket team is currently blessed with an abundance of talent is well known. However, as cricket fans, we sometimes get nostalgic and wish our heroes to return to full-time action

In that sense, the Road Safety Series is a welcome nostalgia fest for cricket fans as it allows people a glimpse of their older heroes even now. However, it is tempting to think about the possibilities of senior players being a part of the current set-up.

With that in mind, here are three now-retired players who India would have loved to have as part of the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia:

Sachin Tendulkar – The ‘God’ of cricket might not have played more than a solitary T20I, but he was far from uncomfortable in the format. A quick look at his IPL numbers proves that; Sachin was, in many ways, ideally suited to a specific role in T20 cricket.

And that role was one of an accumulator. Tendulkar didn’t boast a tremendous strike rate, but he always got the team a decent number of runs before his time in the middle came to a close.

And that is the role he could fulfil for this current Indian team. Alongside Rohit Sharma, whose uber-aggressive style would ensure India got off to quick starts, Tendulkar could well play the role of a sheet anchor; someone whose job it was to bat deep and around whom the whole team’s batting revolved.

Yuvraj Singh – Unlike Tendulkar, Yuvraj was a baby of the T20 format. Who can forget him smashing Stuart Broad for six sixes in the inaugural edition of the World T20? And in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja, the Indian team could surely use Yuvi in the current set-up.

He is a four-dimensional player in current terms; he is not only a powerful ball hitter but also left-handed, and the current Indian team lacks a left-handed batter.

What’s more, he could chip in with valuable overs and be of great value in the field, where his quick throws and safe hands would save India valuable runs – and get the team a few wickets.

Yusuf Pathan – Pathan is, in many ways, someone whose rise to the top was facilitated by T20 cricket. The elder brother of Irfan, Yusuf, wasn’t someone who accomplished a lot in ODI cricket. Instead, his exploits in the shortest formats of the game got him noticed.

He was a handy bat lower down the order, capable of hitting mega sixes at will and decimating bowling attacks. He was also a canny operator with the ball, even entrusted with opening the bowling on occasion for both Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Given that there’s no such thing as too many hard-hitting batsmen today, it would be nice to see the elder Pathan brother strutting his stuff in the current Indian cricket team.
