Mark Wood amongst three England players set to quit the IPL

As the stage is set for the upcoming IPL season, Lucknow Super Giants could have a major setback just a few days before the start. Their star English pacer Mark Wood is set to pull out from the Indian Premier League 2022.

    Bio - Bubble Fatigue

Within a week, two English players Jason Roy and Alex Hales already withdrew their names, stating bio-bubble fatigue as their prime reason. And now, as per reports, Mark Wood might pull out from his contract this league due to an elbow injury.

According to TalkSport commentator Steve Harmison, Mark Wood has been devastated after the injury. He felt "acute pain" in his right elbow during a net’s session on the final morning of the first Test in Antigua, due to which he is not playing in the ongoing series against West Indies. Steve Harmison said, "he's frustrated, he couldn't straighten his elbow, there's a bit of swelling and will have to pull out of the Caribbean tour and likely also from IPL 2022".

In the previous season of IPL English players Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes, Dawid Malan, Liam Livingstone, Mark Wood (from auction) pulled their names back. Franchises, fans and critics are already disappointed with such behavior. England players and supporting staff got heavy criticism after their loss in Ashes with 0-4 since many players stated IPL as their reason for such performance in Ashes.

Aakash Chopra tweeted, "English players pulling out from the IPL citing bubble-fatigue issues…after making themselves available knowing fully well what they were signing up for…might make the IPL teams skeptical about looking in their direction in the future."

Notion against Indian Premier League in England

After the Ashes disaster, former captains, including Michael Atherton and others, made withering statements on players and their commitment towards the nation. They singled out the Indian Premier League as a significant reason behind players' poor performance in Australia. They believe focusing more on white-ball cricket is the reason behind England's poor show in Test cricket.

"The leading multi-format players are paid seven-figure sums, but, incredibly, the ECB washes its hands of them for two months of the year during the Indian Premier League.

"Players should not miss international duty to play in the IPL, nor be rested and rotated to allow them to play elsewhere.

"The carry-on during the winter, and at the start of the English summer, should not happen again," former England captain Michael Atherton wrote in his column.

With all the speculation about one of the most expensive buys of Lucknow Super Giants, Mark Wood, likely to pull out of the league, it will be interesting to see how the franchise will strengthen their bowling department.
