Muralitharan loses his cool Muralitharan loses his cool

A half-century by Abhishek Sharma helped SRH post 195 for six in 20 overs, with Mohammed Shami taking three wickets for Gujarat Titans. Meanwhile, GT raced to 199 for five in 20 overs, crossing the 196-run target. Umran Malik was in excellent form for Sunrises Hyderabad and took his maiden IPL five-wicket haul. However, his efforts went in vain as the SRH did not manage to win. However, there were many twists and turns, which were completely unexpected in the match. Let us look at some of the noteworthy performances and moments of the game.

Five wickets haul for Umran Malik.

The 22-year-old from Jammu took SRH on the verge of a win with figures of 5/25 before Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan pulled off a heist for Gujarat Titans by hitting four sixes in the final over to win the match by five wickets. Though his efforts went for a losing cause, Umran has rightly adjudged the player of the game for his fiery spell of fast bowling, one of the finest in IPL history. Umran Malik with a casual 153 km/h yorker to send Wriddhiman Saha packing. Along with Saha, he took crucial wickets of Gill, skipper Hardik Pandya, Miller and Manohar. This was the pacer's best figure in his IPL career.

Impressed by his spell, Harsha Bhogle tweeted, "Send some scouts to Jammu. There must be more where he came from! #UmranMalik"

Mature inning by the young opener, Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma's aggressive half-century set the tone for a competitive total for SRH, who have banked on their superb bowling line-up so far this season. The youngster smashed 65 runs off 42 balls with an impressive strike rate of 154. SRH have dominated opposition teams by chasing totals - before Wednesday, they had won five successive matches following defeats in their first two matches of the season.

"The way Abhishek Sharma batted, he played pace for sure, but after that the attack he did against Rashid Khan, I don't remember - the last time I remember such hitting against Rashid Khan was when Chris Gayle hit him in Mohali, but here the way a small kid played - over the covers and mid-wicket, he was absolutely stellar." Aakash Chopra said on his channel.

    Proteas' power boosts SRH's innings.

Another batting performance which had a significant contribution to Sunrisers Hyderabad's mammoth total was Aiden Markram. The South African batter scored 56 runs off 40 balls with a strike rate of 140. He made a crucial third-wicket partnership of 96 runs with Abhishek Sharma, which helped the team register the mammoth target of 195 for Gujarat Titans.

Shashank Singh: Finishing cameo from the newcomer!

At the end, when the SRH batting line-up was lagging after Abhishek and Markram's departure, another storm came from Shashank Singh. Despite lacking experience and opportunities, Shashank Singh played a furious knock of unbeaten 25 runs off just six balls with a stunning strike rate. En route to his knock, he also surpassed former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli and Balachandra Akhil to become the Indian batter with the highest strike rate in an IPL inning. Shashank, who plays for Chhattisgarh in domestic cricket, played at a strike rate of 416.66. His inning was like an icing on the cake, which helped the team to register the considerable total

Amit Mishra hailed the youngster by tweeting, "Unbelievable hitting by Shashank Singh in the last over against Ferguson. Abhishek Sharma, Shashank Singh, Umran Malik- SRH is full of new talents and they may become one of the favourite for IPL soon."

    Rashid-Tewatia snatches SRH's victory!

GT needed 22 off the final over of one of the best games of the season. Tewatia hit Marco Jansen for a six off the first ball, while Rashid hit another six off the third ball to bring the equation down to 9 off three balls. Rashid made it tenser with a six off the second last ball, and GT needed three off the final ball. Rashid Khan broke SRH's hearts with another six off the last ball. In their innings, Tewatia scored 40 off 21 while Rashid Khan scored 31 off 11, which sealed the victory for GT!

"Does Rashid Khan with the bat also remind you of Leander Paes at the net. Such fast hands ...." tweeted Harsha Bhogle.

    Muralitharan loses his cool!

With 22 required off the final over, things were pretty tense in both the dugouts. The young South African bowler, Marco Jansen, was about to bowl the last over, and the team's fortune was now in his hands. He was mixing up with his lengths, and on the fifth ball of the over, Jansen bowled a full delivery outside off as Rashid went down on a knee and smashed the ball over the cover region for a maximum.

As the Sunrisers Hyderabad dugout watched in utter disbelief, Muralitharan got up from his bench and seemingly expressed his frustration at Jansen for bowling full. This was entirely unexpected from the head coach as he couldn't manage to control his emotions. Ultimately SRH lost the well-deserved victory despite outstanding contributions from all the units.

Ian Bishop, seated in the commentary box, commented that he had "never seen Muttiah Muralitharan this angry."
