Whenever we hear the word 'Champions', the name that strikes our brain is Chennai Super Kings. CSK, being one of the most successful franchises of IPL, has always been everyone's favourite throughout the years.

However, the fifteenth edition of IPL has been pretty substandard for the team till now. Team Yellow is yet to register their first win of the season. They sustained four losses in four games, which has been the most terrible start of the season ever for the franchise. The main factor for the team's lamentable performance has been the poor form of their youngsters. While youngsters are considered a key aspect of the short format, CSK's young guns are failing significantly to make an impact in the game.

    The underperformance of the youngsters

The mediocre performance from CSK is a result of the failure of all three units. At the same time, many new names were being discussed as emerging stars for CSK before the tournament. However, these names have failed to provide justice to the expectations. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Orange Cap winner for CSK the previous year, has been seen struggling terribly with his form this year. The batsman's performance has been pretty disappointing as his scores in the first four matches were 0, 1, 0 and 16. Consequently, CSK is failing to get a solid start which ultimately affects the team's batting lineup.

Along with Ruturaj, the young bowling unit of CSK is also a problematic reason for the team. Performance of new buys, Mukesh Chaudhary and Tushar Deshpande have been quite ordinary in the first four games for the teams. 21-year-old Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana, a hotly debated topic after the auction, also failed to meet the expectations in his first game for CSK against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Although Shivam Dube performed exceptionally well with the bat in two matches, his bowling was pretty unsatisfactory and thus leaked runs at a crucial juncture for the team. Therefore, the poor performance of the young lads has been a key factor in CSK's terrible display in this season of IPL.

Seasoned players: the only performers for CSK

While the young department of CSK has catastrophically failed to make an impact, the experienced lot of CSK have managed to maintain their class with the appreciable display. The veterans of CSK have pretty well-made use of their broad experience to ameliorate CSK's falling side. The performances of Dwayne Bravo, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, skipper Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni were considerable in the first four matches of the season. Former Captain and leading star of CSK, MS Dhoni, proved why he's called the master of the game in the first match. With his crucial fifty, Dhoni provided a pivotal role in registering a defendable total for the team. Also, Dwayne Bravo snatched three wickets in the match. However, this couldn't help CSK to prevent their loss. His figures had been sensational, and the pacer had managed to take at least one wicket in each match. While Ruturaj Gaikwad is failing to deliver a big knock, Robin Uthappa has done his job relatively better as an opener. He also scored a fifty in the match against Lucknow Super Giants, which helped boost CSK's poor batting. Other than these, performances of Ravindra Jadeja, Ambati Rayudu, Dwaine Pretorius and Chris Jordan have been usual but worth considerable compared to others.

While experienced players are attempting to display substantial cricket on the ground, fans are disappointed with the dropping performance of youngsters. The disappointed fans have started doubting the team selection and questioning if CSK has become a team for old wines only. The team definitely needs to look for a remedy to the poor performance of youngsters and will surely be hoping for a remarkable comeback.
