The West Indies made a good hold over the game as they brutally crushed the visitors' batting line-up with their furious bowling attack. In the 1st Test match between West Indies vs Bangladesh, the day was signed off at West Indies' innings at a score of 95 for a loss of 2 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Earlier, the Bangladesh team managed to record a score of just 103 in their first innings.

A steady start for Day 2

Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Nkrumah Bonner started the day quite steadily as bowlers were seen dominating with their swing. However, both the batters were countering well and were carrying forward the scoreboard steadily. Kraigg Brathwaite started in the same flow with which he ended day 1. The skipper cautiously moved towards his fifty and completed his fifty in the 59th. Restricting them to a low total seemed tricky with the two settled on the crease. Bangladesh was in desperate need of a wicket. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan once again turned out as their guardian as he clinched the wicket of Nkrumah Bonner (33) with an absolute stunner in the 63rd over.

    Captaincy-knock by Kraigg Braithwaite

The well-established partnership between the two was taken down, and now Jermaine Blackwood walked in at number 5. Kraigg Brathwaite and Jermaine Blackwood carried on and made a great partnership of 66 runs. They both turned out dangerous for Bangladesh, and the team had to break this partnership. In the 90th over, pacer Khaled Ahmed trapped the well-settled batter with lightning speed. In an attempt to punch the inswinger towards the leg side, Kraigg Brathwaite missed it, and the ball hit the pads given out by the umpire. Brathwaite fell six runs short of his century, dismissed at a score of 94 off 268 deliveries. His inning became the backbone for the West Indies batting display on Day 2. At this stage, West Indies were at 197 for 4.

Team's collapse after skipper's wicket; Jermaine Blackwood's fight

However, after this big wicket of the captain, the team kept losing wickets at constant intervals making the run rate slower and slower. Despite this, the team led with a good margin as they had scored many runs. The team was losing wickets; however, Jermaine Blackwood was standing firm on the other end and was doing his job prolifically. The batter scored 63 runs off 139 deliveries, contributing significantly to West Indies' total. In the 112th over, Khaled Ahmed got rid of Jermaine Blackwood when West Indies was at a score of 258. With Blackwood's dismissal, the team lost their 9th wicket. The team could not go much further and was wrapped at a score of 265 with a lead of 162 runs from the first innings. The enormous credit for this colossal lead goes to West Indies bowlers who bowled brilliantly on the first day, restricting the opponents to a low score.

For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged four wickets with his bamboozling spin, while Khaled Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain clinched two wickets each. Mustafizur Rahman and skipper Shakib Al Hasan also picked one wicket each, ending the West Indies inning at 265.

Disappointing start of the second innings by the openers for Bangladesh

In Bangladesh's second inning, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudul Hasan Joy again started steadily; however, they failed to withstand the opposition bowling line-up. The opening partnership was broken at 33 with Tamim Iqbal's wicket. Tamim Iqbal scored 22 runs in 31 deliveries and was taken down by Alzarri Joseph. Two overs later, the team lost its second wicket with Mehidy Hasan Miraz's dismissal as Alzarri Joseph dismissed him for two runs.

Till the end of Day 2, the team registered a total of 50 runs in 20 overs. Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Najmul Hossain Shanto are still at the crease, and all eyes are on the two for Day 3 as Bangladesh desperately needs runs for a fighting score.
