Cricket News: Three significant strengths of Australia's T20 World Cup squad

Australia has announced its 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia later this year. They will be seen defending their title in their homeland. As announced, the team will be led by Aaron Finch only this year

The squad announced has some notable strengths that enhance their potential to defend the title successfully. The strengths are as follows:

The power-hitters Tim David and Glenn Maxwell

One of the most shocking revelations surrounding the squad announcement is the inclusion of Tim David. He has been picked by Australian management after formally completing the switch from Associate member Singapore.

Australian chair of selectors George Bailey said, "Tim (David) continues to establish himself with some quality performances in leagues around the world, earning a place in the squad. He is a highly gifted, natural ball striker who will add extra batting depth to the group which has had a lot of success in T20 cricket. We expect him to play a similar role to that he has been playing in the past few years."

Tim David will be one of the biggest boons for the team as he carries immense power with the bat in death overs. He has been included in place of Mitchell Swepson, giving Aaron Finch-led team depth with the bat. Tim David and Glenn Maxwell can outperform any bowler in the final overs on any given day. They keep the potential to overturn the game in their favour at any moment.

The trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins

Australia has a challenging bowling attack with the inclusion of Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. The team's pace attack is potent, and they can destroy any unit under any circumstances on their soil.

All of them can extract swing from the pitch with their disciplined bowling. Considering the range of variations they can perform with slower and bouncer balls, they have the deadliest pace attacks in the cricket world.

A strong potential hitter in the form of Mitchell Marsh at number 3

Australia has always stuck with Steven Smith as their key batter at the number 3 spot. However, the batter has not been able to play the aggressive kind of game that the shortest format demands for quite a long time.

In his place, Mitchell Marsh can be a strong contender at number three as he did wonders playing at that spot for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. The edition was a kind of revelation for the batter. He played many match-winning partnerships with David Warner by playing an attacking game for their side. Steven Smith coming at number four can be a great option in case the top-three fails, as he has been known for his game-changing capabilities.
