Cricket News: Nominees announced for ICC Player of the Month September 2022

    The shortlisted candidates for ICC Men's and Women's Player of the Month awards for September have been announced by the International Cricket Council on October 5

    Nominees for ICC Men's Player of the Month for September

    1- Axar Patel (India) 

    Batters dominated the test series between Australia and India. However, one bowler emerged as the lifesaver with his ability to contain run and skillfully take wickets. 

    Axar Patel was the top bowler for India in the game, where Australia successfully chased down 209 runs. He took three wickets, including Tim David and Glenn Maxwell, while conceding just 17 runs within four overs. In the final match, he took the dangerous wicket of Matthew Wade. He broke the stubborn partnership of Josh Inglis and Aaron Finch.

    The 28-year-old Gujrat native finished the series as the top wicket-taker, with eight wickets under his belt and continued with excellent form in the series against South Africa.

    2- Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan) 

    The number one T20I batter in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's player rankings, Mohammad Rizwan, has made it to the shortlist for September ICC Player of the Month. He scored 70+ runs in the first two matches of the month against India and Hong Kong at the Asia Cup and notched up seven 50s in ten games.

    Mohammad Rizwan finished the T20I series as the top goalscorer, recording 316 runs with a strike rate of 138.60 and an average of 63.20 despite playing four of the five matches.

    3- Cameron Green (Australia) 

    Cameron Green finished the month of September on an excellent note. He scored a match-winning 89* in the first ODI against New Zealand when Australia was chasing 233 at 44/5. He continued his perfect form in the next clash, scoring 25 runs off 12 balls and clinching two wickets.

    The 23-year-old Australian all-rounder found a spot in Australia's squad in the T20I series against India after the popular demand of fans and experts. He scored a whopping 61 off just 30 balls, with four sixes and eight four to help win the match for Australia. Cameron Green desolated Indian bowlers in the final game, scoring an impressive 52 runs off 21 balls to ensure the victory for Australia.

    In the women's category, Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur of India have been nominated for their impressive performances in the 3-0 ODI whitewash over England.

    The third nominee is Nigar Sultana of Bangladesh for leading Bangladesh to victory at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022 as both the captain and a batsman.
