Cricket News: India testing the Bench - Series against Zimbabwe and West Indies

The BCCI has taken a significant step for the West Indies tour. Five big names from the main squad have been rested, and all the new names have got a chance for the tour

In this ODI series against West Indies, the Indian team under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan will not be playing only to win but also to mark an impression of themselves for next year's world cup.

"This is a big opportunity for other players because India is heading towards a big tournament now, and they will test their bench strength. They will be aiming to have one replacement for each player, and this is why so many players are being tried out," said RP Singh

Indian selectors will keep an eye on players for the different positions in the team. With a pool of talents available, this series will give names of players who can be relied on in future. There will be a tough call for the opener alongside Shikhar Dhawan among Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill. While Ruturaj Gaikwad will probably debut and start his career with a bang, Shubman Gill will look to make a comeback in this format. Even in middle-order, a tough call can be expected amongst Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson. Suryakumar and Deepak Hooda have proven themselves well in the previous chances, whereas Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson will be under pressure to cement their place in India's middle-order.

As West Indies' pitch favors spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal will likely play all three games alongside Ravindra Jadeja, making Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel's inclusion doubtful. Arshdeep Singh will be looking forward to his long-awaited ODI debut, which he could not make in England due to injury. Among pacers, in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammad Siraj are expected to lead the pack with a possible game for Avesh Khan.

"These small series, where either the seniors are rested or injured, are very important for players One big performance or back-to-back good performances can keep you in the team for a long time, "said RP Singh

Managing the pool of talent on the West Indies tour would be critical. India will also go for a Zimbabwe tour before the Asia cup. The tour will also have a similar plan. KL Rahul is expected to lead the team, and Virat Kohli is also sure to be included in the squad. Thus, for all the players who will get a chance, it will be an excellent opportunity to make their presence felt in the team and find a good start for their consistent performances.
