As the tour will end five days before Asia Cup 2022, India’s squad doesn’t feature many first-choice players, including regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. As a result, Shikhar Dhawan is roped as the skipper.

K L Rahul: Should he be dropped from World Cup  Squad

The return of KL Rahul post recovery after missing the Zimbabwe tour is still not certain. Will he be “game fit “ to justify his selection for the T20 World Cup?

The squad announced features, all-rounder Washington Sundar and Deepak Chahar. They featured last in the home series against West Indies earlier this year. Post that, Deepak Chahar was in rehab recovering from a hamstring injury, whereas Washington Sundar picked hand injury during IPL 2022, putting him out of international cricket for a long time. However, he made a comeback in competitive cricket via County cricket and now is called back by the national side.

Besides the two comeback calls, Rahul Tripathi, who received his maiden call for Ireland’s tour but remained uncapped, has once again made it to the 15-member squad. He will wish for his international debut with a fair record in domestic 50-over format games.

Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal were all part of the ODI series against the West Indies, have been left out, indicating rotation policy being followed by BCCI, keeping in mind the international calendar.

All three matches in Zimbabwe will be played at the Harare Sports Club.

India’s squad for the Zimbabwe tour: Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
