On July 19, England is prepared to welcome South Africa for a multi-format series. The limited-overs series consists of a three-match ODI series, followed by the same number of games in the T20I series. The Proteas' tour of England will end with a three-match Test series that will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23.

After 2-1 series losses to India—the most recent in the 50-over format, which was confirmed on Sunday at Emirates Old Trafford with a convincing five-wicket loss—have made the transition to life without Eoin Morgan appear more complicated than most had imagined.

South Africa appears to be more stable, despite having just finished a series loss to Bangladesh in March and a tied T20I series with India last month.

    Pitch and Conditions

Chester-le-Street has historically favoured seamers, but recent years have seen batting scores improve; Sri Lanka's 338 versus West Indies in the 2019 World Cup is the venue's highest total. That is likely due more to a global offensive strategy than to any environmental changes. However, with a start time of 1 pm, the high temperature of 35 degrees Celsius may affect who will bat first and how many spinners are chosen.

    England Playing XI

Buttler will be disappointed with his top-order hitters' continued struggles in the ODI series against India, but he will have faith in them for the next white-ball series against the Proteas. Matthew Potts, who has performed admirably for the hosts in red-ball cricket, has reached the ODI team and is ready to make an impact in white-ball cricket as well. After returning from his pilgrimage responsibilities, Adil Rashid also rejoins the group.

England: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Jos Buttler (c & wk), Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, David Willey, Matthew Potts, and Reece Topley make up the projected current Squad.

    South Africa Playing XI

Quinton de Kock, South Africa's standout opener, will be tested for fitness as he recovers from a finger injury. In Bavuma's absence, Aiden Markram and David Miller will have more duties in the middle order.
