Prannoy H.S. emerged as the number one shuttler in tour rankings

Prannoy was named the world's number one player in the men's singles category in BWF World Tour Rankings based on an update on September 6, 2022.

The 2022 BWF World Tour commenced on January 11 this year and is slated to end on December 18. It marks the fifth edition of the BWF Badminton World Tour.

The tour was scheduled with 22 events, and Prannoy's quarter-final finish in the India Open in January set him off on a great start to the season. Shortly after, he landed another quarter-final in the Syed Modi International 2022.

In March 2022, Prannoy advanced to the quarter-finals of the German Open 2022 and then suffered a shocking elimination in the first round at the 2022 All England Open.

He was in top form again at the Swiss Open 2022, where he became the runner-up to Leonardus Jonatan Christie of Indonesia in the final. In Korea Open 2022 in early April, he once again suffered a first-round exit.

He couldn't pull himself back and crashed out of the Thailand Open 2022 held in the May opening round. A month later, he entered the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open 2022 and lost in the quarter-finals at the Malaysia Open 2022.

He then lost the semi-final at the Malaysia Masters 2022 that took place in July and landed a quarter-final finish at the Singapore Open. He couldn't get past the last eight in August during the 2022 Japan Open.

Meanwhile, the men's doubles partnership of Arjun M.R. and Dhruv Kapila made progress by winning the men's doubles title at the Maha Metro Maharashtra International Challenge badminton tournament in Nagpur earlier this month.

They have now climbed three spots to number 23, and the mixed doubles duo Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Bhatnagar jumped two spots to number 30 - their career high.

Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy also jumped a few spots to be 23rd in the women's doubles. The men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the gold medal winners at the Commonwealth Games, remained at the eighth spot.

Lastly, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, absent from the World Championships and Japan Open, retains the sixth spot. In contrast, London Olympics bronze medallist Saina Nehwal jumped to 31st on the women's list
